The bankers lamp was designed for a world that worked on paper by night. This example is European, and by its construction, materials, and wear we place it in the 1920s or 1930s — an informed estimate, as it is unmarked and no maker is recorded. The half-cylinder tôle shade, in its original deep green, sits on a swan-neck arm of nickel-plated brass rising from a stepped circular base. Note where the plating has softened on the high points of the arm and base, warm brass showing faintly through the silver — the wear pattern of a lamp that spent decades being switched on, tilted, and used, not displayed. It will be completely rewired before dispatch and arrives in working, ready-to-use condition.
