1950s Brass and Bronze Wall Sconce PairLouis XVI Style Leaf Quiver Backplates and Single Scroll Arms

Slim and light, this pair suits the narrow spaces where a bigger sconce won't fit: beside a doorframe, between two windows or above a small desk.

Each sconce has a narrow tapering back plate shaped like an urn, decorated with long leaves, with a pierced loop at the top for hanging and a leafy drop below. A single scrolled arm, edged with leaves and finished with a curl, reaches out to a cup with a leaf-cast rim. The arm ends in a threaded tip made for French lamp fittings. Before European standards were agreed, French lamp makers used their own thread sizes, so old French lights often need French-thread parts to fit properly.

The sconces are in good vintage condition, and the finish would benefit from a clean. They aren't yet wired for electricity. They have been kept together as a pair since the 1950s and are ready for a new wall. Hang them either side of a narrow mirror, a bed or a doorway.
