1960s Black Lacquered Metal Urn Table Lamp Base with Brass Band, Vintage Neoclassical Light
A slim black urn belted with a band of bright brass-tone metal and set on a polished trumpet foot: this lamp has the crisp, classic contrast of black and gold, softened by a wide cream shade.
The body is a tall, tapering urn in black lacquered metal. Its shoulder is encircled by a broad, gleaming brass-tone band, and it narrows at the top to a short black neck. Below, a turned brass-tone stem flares into a round, stepped trumpet base. A wide, shallow cone shade in cream fabric sits on top and throws the light down onto the table. The urn outline goes back to the Empire style of Napoleon's France. Designers then copied the shapes of Greek and Roman vases newly unearthed at Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the form returned in the Art Deco and Hollywood Regency years.
The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with a glossy black finish and bright brass-tone parts. It will be fully rewired in our workshop, ready for years of use. Set it on a bedside table, a desk or a console, or use two as a matching pair.
Black-urn lamp: a vintage Hollywood Regency style table lamp with a black lacquered urn body, a brass-tone band, neck and trumpet base, and a cream cone shade, rewired in our workshop and ready to use.
