Acanthus Leaf Candlestick Table Lamp in Gilt Metal, Baluster Stem and Stepped Round Base, Baroque Revival Style

From base to top, this candlestick lamp is wrapped in acanthus leaves, their tips curling in crisp relief. The gilding is warm and slightly shadowed, so every leaf stands out. It is a richly decorated lamp for a classic interior.

The lamp base takes the form of a tall candlestick. A baluster stem, covered in bands of acanthus leaves, is divided by smooth collars. It rises from a stepped round base with a wide band of leaves and a plain gilt foot. The gilding is darker in the recesses, which deepens the relief. The acanthus is a Mediterranean plant whose deeply cut leaves have decorated architecture since ancient Greece, most famously on the Corinthian capital.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, and our workshop fully rewires it before it leaves. The gilding keeps its soft, darker tones in the recesses, just as it came to us. On a side table, a desk or a bedside table, with a pleated or silk shade, it brings a warm, traditional glow to a room.

The lamp: a gilt metal candlestick base with an acanthus-covered baluster stem and a stepped round base.
