Antique 19th Century French Bronze Skyphos Cup with IvyPalmettes and Ancient Coin Medallion, Neo-Grec Two-Handled Vessel

Trailing ivy winds around this small bronze cup, its leaves and berry clusters cast in deep relief, with a slender tendril running beneath the rim. On one side, a round medallion reproduces an ancient coin showing a chariot drawn by galloping horses. On the other, below the handle, a classical palmette fans out above two scrolling volutes with rosettes, the elegant anthemion motif of Greek vase painting. Two flat, looped handles rise level with the rim, and the cup stands on a short pedestal with a ring of pointed leaves around the foot. Made in the Neo-Grec taste of 19th-century Paris, when designers drew directly on antiquities in the Louvre and Naples, it has a warm golden-brown patina with brighter highlights. It’s a refined piece for a desk, a library shelf or a cabinet.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural patina and light wear. The foot is slightly warped, as pictured.
