Antique Fluted Column Table Lamp with Worn Silver-Tone FinishBeaded Square Base and Modern Shade

Simple and tall, a fluted column has steadied a room's lighting for more than a century. This one carries a soft mix of silver and gold tones, left by years of wear.

The lamp rises from a square, flared base edged with a row of polished beads. A plain ring marks the foot of a slender column carved with straight vertical flutes. At the top, a screw-in bulb holder with a pull chain switches the light on and off. It comes with a modern drum shade in dark brown, trimmed with silver-tone bands. The column was once silvered, and traces of silver remain in the flutes and around the base. On plated pieces, collectors call this "bleeding": the plating rubs thin on the high points and the warmer metal underneath begins to show through.

The lamp is in good antique condition. The silver finish is worn, and the shade has a few marks inside. It has been cleaned and checked and is ready for a new desk or side table. Set it on a console, a desk or beside an armchair.
