Four ram's heads look out from the sides of this urn, each hung with a small garland of flowers. It's a classical touch that gives a plain table lamp real presence.

The lamp is shaped as a dark green urn with a soft, mottled patina, set off by gilt-tone mounts. A leafy collar crowns the top, and a band of upright leaves wraps the foot. The round base is ribbed like a sunburst and edged with beading. Above the urn, a telescopic brass-tone stem with a small locking screw lets you set the height between 52 and 60 cm. The lamp comes with a conical fabric shade. Ram's heads go back to ancient Roman altars, where they recalled the animals offered to the gods. Louis XVI designers revived them on vases, tables and lights as a sign of classical taste.

The lamp is in good antique condition, with signs of age to the patina. It has come through the years with its mounts intact and is ready for a new desk or side table. Set it on a console, a library table or beside a reading chair.
