This lamp is French, circa 1930, signed L. Brunswick on the sculpture, the figure cast in silvered régule and mounted on a black-veined marble plinth alongside a speckled white glass globe. The skier is modelled in full descent — knees bent, weight forward, poles tucked under the arms in the tuck position that had only recently become the competitive racer's standard technique — the body language of speed rather than leisure. The silvering gives the figure a cool, precise finish that reads differently from gilt: sharper, more athletic, more of its moment. The brass poles are original to the piece and complete. The globe beside him is speckled white glass, its mottled surface catching and diffusing the light in the manner of the best Art Deco lampwork — note how the globe sits at the same height as the skier's centre of gravity, the compositional decision that makes the lamp read as a unified scene rather than a figure beside a light.
