Antique French Two-Light Bouillotte Lamp, Silver-Plated Bronze, Dark Green Tole Shade, Scalloped Base, 46 cm
The deep bottle-green shade and the cool silver-tone mount give this little lamp a quiet, scholarly look. It's at home on a desk among books and papers.
The lamp rises from a round, stepped foot with a scalloped edge, through a domed collar, to a pair of short arms with two turned candle cups and a small urn finial between them. A square rod runs up through the oval green tôle shade. The shade slides up and down and is held by a leaf-shaped thumbscrew. Inside, it's painted cream to throw the light back down. Classic bouillotte lamps stand on a wide, shallow dish. A version like this, on a round candlestick-type foot, was a neater desk lamp that took up less room on a writing table.
The lamp is in good antique condition. The shade has small paint losses and scratches, and the silver-tone mount shows light wear. It will be fully rewired in our workshop so it's ready for years of reading and writing. Set it on a desk, a secretary or a bedside table.
