Antique Large Bronze-Tone Candlestick Table Lamp with Gadrooned Base and Drip Pan

Before it held a bulb, this sturdy candlestick held a candle. Like many others, it was fitted for electricity when that new way of lighting reached ordinary homes.

The lamp stands on a wide round base with a band of ribbed gadrooning, rising through a trumpet-shaped foot to a ribbed knop and a ringed stem. At the top, a gadrooned drip pan holds a candle sleeve and the bulb fitting. Between about 1890 and 1930, as homes were wired for electric light, families often had their best candlesticks converted. A tube was run up through the stem for the cord and a socket was fitted in place of the candle.

The lamp is in good antique condition, with a worn finish and a stained candle sleeve. The old wiring reaches us as found. It has been in use for many years and is ready to light a new room. Set it on a bedside table, a desk or a hall console.
