Antique Louis XVI Style Brass-Tone Candlestick Table Lamp with Beaded Friezes and Fluted Stem

This candlestick was made to hold a single candle on a table or mantelpiece. Converted to electricity, it now makes a slim, bright table lamp with a shade of your choice.

The lamp stands on a round stepped base with several rings of fine beading. A bell-shaped foot rises to a tapering stem, fluted at its centre and banded with more beading. At the top, a candle socket and a beaded drip pan now carry the bulb fitting. In French, the cup that holds the candle is called the "binet", and the flat ring around it is the "bobèche". On fine candlesticks the two were often made as separate pieces, so a worn or damaged part could be replaced.

The lamp is in very good antique condition, with light marks and dents from long use. It has been converted to electricity and is ready for a new desk or side table. Set it on a nightstand, a desk or a hall console.
