Antique Pair of Napoleon III Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal Three-Light Candelabra Table Lamps
A matching pair of candelabra at each end of a mantelpiece or sideboard is one of the oldest ways to dress a room for evening. These two have been electrified, so they light it at the flick of a switch.
Each lamp stands on a round base with a beaded edge and a band of upright leaves. A baluster stem, decorated with hanging husks, rises to a fluted collar topped with a pine-cone finial. Three reeded arms branch out, each with a small ring knop, and end in candle cups with beaded drip pans and cream candle sleeves. In the 1850s and 1860s, Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, admired Marie Antoinette and brought the Louis XVI style back into fashion. This revival is often called "Louis XVI-Impératrice".
The lamps are in very good antique condition, with some tarnish on the arms. They have stayed together as a pair and are ready for a new mantel or sideboard. Place them on a mantelpiece, a console or either end of a dining sideboard.
Candelabra pair in brief: two gilt metal three-light candelabra lamps in Louis XVI style, with leaf-banded bases and pine-cone finials, rewired and sold as a pair.
