This bowl is hallmarked silver, its rim marked with a set of maker's and assay marks stamped in a row along the edge. The bowl rises from a stemmed circular foot to a wide, shallow basin, its walls entirely pierced in a repeating arched rib pattern — alternating narrow vertical bars and pointed arch cutouts running the full circumference, the negative space as considered as the silver itself. The rim is finished with a fine gadroon border, the raised bead-and-reel edge that gives the otherwise open form a defined, solid boundary at the top. Note how the piercing pattern narrows and tightens as it descends toward the foot, the ribs converging at the base in a natural taper — the structural logic that keeps the openwork sound under its own weight.
