Art Deco Style Running Greyhound Figure, Black Patinated Metal on Naturalistic Base, Desk Sculpture

Held up to a window, this vase becomes a small lantern of violet light, with a leafy branch shining through in clear glass. The play of colour and cut is what makes it come alive. It is a piece for anyone who loves glass that catches the sun.

The vase has a slender baluster shape on a short knopped stem and a round cut foot. The glass is clear, coated with an amethyst-purple layer, and cut through to the clear glass in a pattern of arched windows at the shoulder, a long engraved leaf branch across the body, and tall flutes below. The rim is finished with a sawtooth edge, and the foot is cut with petal shapes. The vase is made from clear glass coated with a thin layer of coloured glass. The cutter grinds through the colour to reveal the clear glass beneath, so every leaf and window shows as a bright line.

The vase is in very good vintage condition. It moves on intact, from rim to foot. On a windowsill or a shelf with light behind it, it glows violet. With a few stems, it makes a colourful centrepiece on a dining table.

Summary of the piece: an amethyst-flashed clear glass vase, cut to clear with windows, a leaf branch and flutes, with a sawtooth rim and a cut foot.
