Italian lighting firms of the 1980s produced a wave of sharply geometric, fully adjustable task lamps for offices and drafting tables, built around visible counterweights, swing arms, and stepped hinges rather than a simple shade and base — form language that made the lamp's mechanism part of its design rather than something to hide.

This desk lamp follows that language closely: a matte black lacquered finish over a rectangular fluted base, a long counterbalanced arm, and an articulated head housing a halogen bulb, letting the light be aimed and the whole fixture raised or lowered across its full working range. It closely matches the published Condor lamp, designed by Hans Von Klier and produced by Bilumen in Italy in the 1980s, though no maker's label is visible in the photographs provided to confirm this specific example. A counterbalanced arm like this is doing real mechanical work, not just decorative articulation — a weighted joint at the base is calculated to offset the weight of the lamp head at every angle, so the arm holds any position you set it to without a locking screw, which is why this style of lamp could be repositioned one-handed even while switched on and hot.
