Brass Wall Lamp with Figural Hand Mount and Frosted Etched Glass Shade

Figural mounts — hands, rings, shells — were a favored device in European decorative brasswork, borrowed from door-knocker and curtain-tie traditions and adapted into lighting fixtures, where a sculpted hand appears to grip a ring pull and gives an otherwise purely functional wall fitting a small narrative flourish.

This wall lamp follows that tradition closely: a brass mount in the form of a fan or shell-shaped backplate, from which a sculpted brass hand extends, gripping a ring, above a frosted glass globe shade etched with a floral motif and finished at the rim with a white fringed trim. The fringe is worth a closer look on its own terms — it is a textile detail added after the glass was formed, not part of the glasswork itself, and trim of this kind was often replaced over a fixture's working life, so it is always worth checking whether it is original to the piece or a later addition.

Condition shows no losses in the photographs provided, with the etched glass intact throughout. The piece has clearly been well kept, and now moves forward to a new setting. It would suit a hallway, a bedroom, or either side of a dressing table mirror, where the frosted glass can diffuse light softly at eye level.
