Few foods have gathered as much ceremony around them as caviar. In the grand restaurants and private dining rooms of twentieth-century Europe it arrived chilled, alongside champagne, in a dedicated server that was as much a piece of theatre as of tableware. The form became a classic because it did one thing perfectly: it kept a delicate food cold and showed it off at the same time.
This server follows that classic design. A polished footed bowl forms the base. Above it, a removable three-arm holder, each arm finished with a gold-tone ball, cradles a clear glass dish at the centre. The arrangement has a practical purpose: the outer bowl is filled with crushed ice, while the caviar sits in glass, so it stays cold without touching metal, which connoisseurs have long avoided because it can lend a faint metallic taste. The mirror finish of the bowl and the warm gold of the finials give the set a bright, celebratory look.
The server reaches us in very good overall condition, with only small marks from use.
