The vertical fluting caught light along its length, while the stone base grounded a tall, top-heavy fixture on a side table or console, a practical solution that also read as considered design.

This lamp follows that formula: a fluted gilt metal column rises from a ribbed knop to a decorative collar beneath the shade, set on a stepped, square marble base in dark stone. It is fitted with a fabric drum shade in deep brown, lined in gilt-toned material on the inside — a detail that is not merely decorative: a gilt or gold-toned shade lining reflects light back outward and warms its color, a technique lampmakers have long used to soften the tone cast into a room.

The base has been professionally restored to address a small chip, now virtually imperceptible and visible only on close inspection, as shown in the photographs. The piece has clearly been well kept, and now moves forward to a new setting. It would suit a console table, a bedside pairing, or a desk — anywhere a compact silhouette and grounded base are wanted.
