The hand-form candle holder is one of the more distinctive motifs in traditional wall lighting, a closed fist gripping the candle arm as though caught mid-gesture. Set against a fluted, radiating backplate, the figural detail gives an otherwise simple single-arm sconce real character, the kind of piece that reads as a small sculpture as much as a light fitting.

This sconce is worked in a combination of gilt and silvered metal, a closed fist rendered in gilt tones gripping a slender arm that rises to the socket, mounted on a fluted, sunburst-patterned backplate in a silvered finish. Note how the two metal tones are used to separate the figural and architectural elements of the piece — the warm gilt hand against the cooler silvered backplate — rather than finishing the whole sconce in a single tone. The sconce is fitted with a pleated white fabric shade.

The piece reaches us in good condition. As a lighting piece, it will be fully rewired through our workshop, delivered working and ready to use, fitted with a B22 socket as supplied.
