The mushroom-form glass shade became a signature of mid-century lighting design, its rounded dome catching and softening light in a way flat or conical shades never could. Paired with a turned metal column base, the form gave designers of the 1960s a way to bring real sculptural interest to an everyday table lamp — something with the presence of a light fixture and the quiet geometry of a small ornament, useful on a desk or by a bed without ever feeling overbuilt.

This lamp is worked in gilt brass, its column built from a sequence of turned and ribbed elements — a fluted shaft, two gadrooned spherical knops, and a wide, flared circular base — rising to a socket collar that supports the glass shade above. Note how the shade itself is worked in two registers: a clear, faceted-looking glass dome capped by a solid frosted blue band running around its widest point, a combination of clear and colored glass in a single mold that was a distinctive treatment of the period rather than a later addition. The lamp's electrics have been fully renewed with black braided fabric flex and a zeppelin-style inline switch, fitted with a small-base E14 screw socket.

The piece reaches us in the good condition typical of a well-kept vintage lamp, with no losses or damage noted to the glass or metal.
