Gilt Metal Candlestick-Form Table Lamp, Fluted Column, Medallion Detail

The candlestick-form table lamp carries its origins openly, keeping the drip pan, knopped stem, and stepped square base of a traditional candlestick even after its conversion to hold a socket and shade. It's a form that has stayed in near-continuous production for well over a century, valued for the same reasons it always was: a stable, weighted foot and a silhouette that reads as classic in almost any interior.

This lamp is worked in gilt metal, its column built from a socket rising above a wide, gently sloped drip pan, continuing down through a slender fluted shaft set with a small round medallion, to a stepped square base with chased ornament at each level. Note how the fluted shaft narrows only slightly along its length rather than tapering dramatically, giving the column a straighter, more architectural line than the more curvaceous baluster stems seen on many candlestick lamps of this general type. The lamp is shown fitted with a pleated white fabric shade.

The piece reaches us in very good vintage condition. As a lamp, it has been fully rewired and is ready for use, fitted with an E27 socket as supplied. Placed on a desk or side table, its straight fluted column and square base give it a slightly more formal, architectural presence than a rounder baluster-form lamp.

Worked in gilt metal, the lamp stands 51 cm high with shade (35 cm without), measures 25 cm wide with shade, and sits on a 10 x 10 cm base.
