Hand-Pierced Moroccan Egg Lamp, Engraved Foliage Metal Lantern 20th Century
The pierced metal lamp is North Africa's oldest lighting trick and its most generous one: the fixture keeps almost nothing for itself and gives the whole room the light instead — cast through hundreds of cut openings as a canopy of patterned shadow on walls and ceiling. In the Moroccan workshops the technique is worked by hand, chisel and file through sheet metal, and every lamp maps the hours it took in its cutting.
This lamp is North African, probably Moroccan, from the late twentieth century: an ovoid body of pierced metal in a silvered patinated finish, worked over its entire surface with scrolling foliate openwork, each leaf and blossom engraved with fine hatched detail, seated on a turned, spreading foot. Look closely at the cut edges and the hatching — the lines vary in depth and angle as a hand does, and the pattern never quite repeats around the egg, the fingerprints of bench work that separate the artisanal piece from a stamped import. Switched on, the body becomes a lantern, throwing its foliage across the room in shadow. The lamp is fully rewired through our workshop before dispatch, fitted with the appropriate plug or adapter for your country, and delivered working and ready to use.
The patinated finish carries light traces of use with no structural damage, as the photographs show. Whoever lit their evenings through this lattice before you kept every leaf of it intact. It suits a bedside table, a low shelf, or any corner that wants warmth after dark.
The lamp is hand-pierced metal, rewired before dispatch. It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — we handle the paperwork and worldwide shipping, with all import duties paid by us, so there is nothing to settle on delivery. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
