Imari Palette Ceramic Vase Lamp in Gilt Metal Mounts, Pierced Gallery Collar and Scroll-Foot Base, 45 cm

Cobalt blue, iron red and gold: the Imari palette glows on this vase, set in gilt mounts from collar to foot. It has the rich, layered colour of a room full of collected treasures. It is a lamp that brings warmth and pattern to a traditional interior.

The body is a baluster-shaped ceramic vase, painted in deep blue and iron red with gilt touches. A large central cartouche holds a floral design with birds, surrounded by scrolling flowers, with a band of blue lappets at the foot. It is mounted on a round gilt metal base with scroll feet, and topped by a gilt collar and a pierced gilt gallery, from which the lamp holder rises. Imari decoration pairs underglaze cobalt blue with red and gold enamels over the glaze. It is a combination first shipped from Japan through the port of Imari and later imitated across Europe and China.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, and our workshop fully rewires it before it leaves. The gilt mounts and the painted vase stay together as they were assembled. On a side table, a console or a sideboard, with a pleated or drum shade, it brings deep colour and a touch of gold to a traditional or collected room.

The piece: an Imari palette ceramic vase in gilt metal mounts with a pierced gallery collar and a scroll-foot base.
