Leaping Gazelle Figure in Brass-Tone Metal on Naturalistic Base, 1960s–70s Style Mid-Century Animal Sculpture
Caught at the top of its leap, this gazelle seems to hang in the air, horns swept back and forelegs tucked beneath it. It has all the energy of an animal in full flight. It is a sculpture that brings movement to a still shelf.
The figure is cast in brass-tone metal, showing a leaping gazelle with long, ridged horns curving back, a slim muzzle and delicate legs. It balances on its hind legs on a low oval base modelled with a naturalistic ground of rocks and plants. Mid-century designers loved the gazelle for its long, springing lines, which translate naturally into a single sweep of metal.
The figure is in very good vintage condition. It keeps the soft, mellow patina it has built up over the years. On a console, a bookshelf or a mantelpiece, it adds a graceful, golden silhouette to a mid-century, Hollywood Regency or boho room.
