Louis XVI Style Glass Fruit Bowl Centrepiece on Champagne-Tone Metal Stand, Laurel Garlands and Ribbons
A shallow glass bowl floats above a light metal stand hung with laurel garlands, ready for a pyramid of fruit. Clear glass keeps it airy, so the colours of whatever it holds do all the talking. It is a centrepiece that dresses a table without crowding it.
A wide, shallow bowl of clear glass rests on a tripod stand of champagne-toned metal. Three arched legs are joined by a beaded stretcher and hung with ribbon-tied laurel garlands. At the centre, a stem with a leaf-cast finial rises through the middle of the bowl. Laurel garlands tied with ribbons were a signature of Louis XVI decoration, borrowed from the victory wreaths of ancient Rome.
The centrepiece is in very good vintage condition. The glass bowl and its stand go on together, as they were made. In the middle of a dining table or on a sideboard, it holds fruit, sweets or floating flowers.
