Louis XVI Style Gold-Tone Hand Mirror, Laurel Wreath and Ribbon Frame, Beveled Glass, 28.5 cm

A laurel wreath tied with a flowing ribbon crowns this round hand mirror. Below the glass, a flaming torch with little draped swags runs down the handle. It feels heavy and solid in the hand.

The mirror has a round bevelled glass set in a gilt metal frame with a bead and leaf-tip border. At the top, a laurel wreath sits on a bow, with ribbons trailing out to each side. The handle starts with a torch and flame framed by small draped garlands, then narrows into an open loop. A ring on the back lets it hang on a wall, and the parts unscrew for cleaning. Mirrors like this were often made as part of a dressing-table set, with a hairbrush, a clothes brush and small boxes all in the same pattern. They were laid out together on a lady's dressing table.

The mirror is in good vintage condition, with one small spot on the edge of the glass. It has been kept with care, and it's ready for a new dressing table. Use it as a hand mirror, or hang it by its ring on a bedroom or bathroom wall.
