Louis XVI Style Mirrored Wall Sconce, Gilt Metal Girandole with Bevelled Oval Mirror, Ribbon Bow and Laurel, Two Lights

Light and reflection work together in this small wall piece: two lights at the top, and a bevelled mirror below to catch and double their glow. Gilded laurel and a tied ribbon frame the glass like a small portrait. It is a romantic, classical accent for a wall.

At the centre is an oval bevelled mirror set in a gilt metal frame with a fine leaf border. It is surrounded by a second, reeded oval and flanked by gilt laurel branches. A ribbon bow crowns the top, and a laurel-framed oval cartouche with a tied ribbon sits at the base. Two short arms curve out at the top, each ending in a cup of gilt leaves that holds a lamp holder. A wall light with a mirror behind it is called a girandole: the glass reflects the light back into the room, doubling its glow.

The sconce is in good vintage condition, with age spotting to the mirror glass, and our workshop fully rewires it before it leaves. The mirror glass keeps its age marks, left as they are. Hung in a hallway, beside a mantelpiece or near a dressing table, it adds warm light and a flash of gilt reflection.

In short: a gilt metal girandole with a bevelled oval mirror, laurel branches, a ribbon bow crest and two lights in leaf cups.
