Napoleon III Style Hall Lantern, Star-Cut Glass Cylinder in Gilt Metal Rococo Frame, Ceiling Canopy and Chain
A hall lantern is the first light a guest sees, and this one greets them with a scatter of stars. Hung in an entrance or on a landing, it throws small bright points across the walls through its cut glass. It gives a doorway a sense of welcome and ceremony.
A cylinder of clear glass, cut with star motifs, is held in a gilt metal frame. The frame has scrolling uprights, a beaded top ring and small scrolled feet. Leafy Rococo scrolls rise above the frame to a central stem. The lantern hangs from a chain to a round ceiling canopy decorated in relief, and a single lamp holder sits inside the glass. The stars are cut into the glass on a spinning wheel, each ray a single stroke, which is why they show as crisp white lines when the lantern is lit.
The lantern is in very good vintage condition, and our workshop fully rewires it before it leaves. It comes complete with its chain and ceiling canopy. Hung in an entrance hall, a stairwell or above a small dining table, it gives a warm, starry light.
Complete with: a star-cut clear glass cylinder, a gilt metal Rococo frame, a suspension chain and a ceiling canopy.
