Picture a whitewashed room in a southern European house with the shutters half closed against the afternoon. On a low chest, one lamp gives the corner its warmth. Its glaze is the colour of dry earth and bark, and a branch of leaves climbs its side. This is a piece for rooms that favour natural materials and hand-made surfaces over polish.

The lamp base is tall and tapered, made of glazed ceramic in shades of brown, beige and cream. A stylised branch of leaves runs up its length, with the spaces between the leaves cut right through the body. Openwork of this kind is cut by hand while the clay is still leather-hard, before firing, so every opening keeps the slight irregularity of the knife. The surface is heavily textured, with a speckled, raised glaze that catches the light at every angle.

The lamp base is in very good vintage condition. We have kept it as it was made, and it goes to you ready for its next room. Set on a sideboard, console or bedside table, it brings an earthy, sculptural note to a boho, natural or mid-century interior.
