The glass globe sconce belongs to a distinct strand of 1970s lighting design, where the fitting itself all but disappears behind a single, sculptural piece of glass. Ribbed or swirled amber glass was a particular favorite of the period, prized for the way it caught and warmed ordinary light, turning a small wall fixture into something closer to a piece of decorative glasswork that happened to also illuminate a room.

This pair is built around a chrome wall mount and arm, each supporting a globe-form shade in amber-toned glass, its surface worked in a swirling, ribbed texture that catches the light unevenly across its curved body. Note how the globe's texture runs on the diagonal rather than in straight vertical ribs, a mold detail that gives the glass a sense of movement even when unlit, distinct from the more uniform fluted globes also common to the period. Each shade sits on a small beaded glass collar where it meets the chrome fitting.
