Candlesticks that have become lamps keep a memory of flame in their shape: the urn-shaped cup, the slender stem, the wide foot made to stand steady on a table. This pair carries that shape into electric light. They bring formality to a room without stiffness.

Each lamp began as a silver-tone metal candlestick. It has an urn-shaped candle cup, a tapering stem with leaf-cast collars, and a round stepped foot circled by a band of leaf decoration. A cream candle sleeve rises from each cup, and a pear-shaped harp above it carries the lamp holder and a shade. A candlestick is converted by running the cord up through its hollow stem and seating the lamp holder in the candle cup, with a sleeve dressed to look like a candle.

The pair is in good vintage condition, with visible wear to the silver-tone finish, and one candlestick has an old repair just above its foot. We have left the surface as it is rather than replating it, so the wear tells its own story. Placed at each end of a mantelpiece or on matching side tables, they give a room a classical symmetry.
