Pair of Chrome Wall Sconces, Etched Frosted Glass Shades, Beaded Rim Detail

The bell-shaped etched glass shade was a favorite through much of the twentieth century for wall lighting in bathrooms, hallways, and bedrooms alike, valued for softening light through frosted glass while catching the eye with a floral or foliate motif etched into the surface. Set on a chrome fitting rather than brass, the pairing gives the form a cooler, more restrained finish than its gilt-metal equivalents.

This pair is built around a chrome-finished bracket, each rising from a fluted circular backplate to a slender tapering arm that supports a bell-form shade above. The shades are worked in frosted glass, etched with a delicate floral pattern across the body and finished at the rim with a fine beaded edge. Note how the beaded rim catches the light differently from the frosted body beneath it, a two-texture treatment on a single piece of glass that adds a small but real touch of refinement beyond a plain frosted shade.

The pair reaches us in very good vintage condition. As lighting pieces, both sconces will be fully rewired and are ready for use. Hung as a pair either side of a mirror or vanity, their etched glass shades give a soft, diffused light well suited to a bathroom or dressing area.
