The two-arm brass wall sconce was a fixture of the considered French mid-century interior — practical enough for daily use, refined enough in its proportions to anchor a wall on its own. Designers of the period favoured a spare, confident brass arm over heavier cast ornament, letting the material's warmth and a well-chosen shade colour do the work that carving had done in earlier styles.

This pair is French, mid-twentieth century, in polished brass. Each sconce is built around a circular backplate from which two slender curved arms extend outward and upward, each rising to a tapered black candle-form socket cover before meeting its shade — note how the black sockets sit as a deliberate dark accent against the brass, a considered pairing of materials rather than an afterthought. The fabric drum shades are a saturated red, giving each sconce genuine colour presence on the wall even unlit. The pair share identical proportions and finish throughout.

The brass is sound across both sconces; the shades are included and in used condition, with wear consistent with age, as photographed.
