Pair of Gilt Brass Two-Arm Wall Sconces, Fluted Candle-Style Arms, French Design, 1950s
The two-arm sconce with fluted candle-form arms is a classic of French traditional lighting, its paired verticals echoing the shape of a candlestick even after conversion to electric use. Set on a ribbed circular backplate, the form keeps its visual weight low and close to the wall, letting the two upright arms do the work rather than relying on scrollwork or ornament to fill the space.
This pair is worked in gilt brass, each sconce built around a ribbed, radially fluted circular backplate from which two fluted, tapering arms rise at slightly different angles, each terminating in a socket with a shaped drip pan below. Note how each arm narrows to a pointed tip below the fluted body, a small decorative flourish typical of mid-century French candle-form sconces and a detail that distinguishes them from the plainer, unpointed arms seen on many contemporary designs.
The pair reaches us in very good vintage condition. As lighting pieces, both sconces will be fully rewired and are ready for use, fitted with a B22 bayonet socket as supplied. Hung as a pair either side of a mirror or bed, their upright fluted arms suit a classic or traditional interior particularly well.
Worked in gilt brass, each sconce stands 20 cm high without shade, projects 11 cm from the wall, and measures 16 cm wide, with a 7 cm backplate. Every piece we send is professionally packed by hand, fully insured, and shipped worldwide with all import duties and tariffs already paid on our side — there is nothing further for you to settle when it arrives.
