The scroll-arm sconce with an oval backplate is one of the most versatile forms in traditional wall lighting, its curved arm and shaped backplate borrowed from candlestick tradition and readily adapted to electric use without losing that period character. A crown-form candle cup at the socket adds a small but distinctive flourish to an otherwise classic silhouette, the kind of detail that turns a plain scroll sconce into something with more presence on the wall.

This pair is worked in gilt brass, each sconce rising from an oval, radially fluted backplate to a single scrolled arm that curves outward and up to a crown-form candle cup at the socket. Note how the crown motif is worked in the round rather than flat-stamped, with individually defined points around its rim, a level of dimensional detail that lifts it above a simple decorative bobèche. Each sconce is fitted with a pleated fabric shade in white, currently shown with protective film still in place.

The pair reaches us in very good condition. As lighting pieces, both sconces have been fully rewired and are ready for use. Hung as a pair either side of a mirror or bed, their scrolled arms and crown detail suit a classic or traditional interior particularly well.
