Pair of Gilt Metal Two-Arm Wall Sconces, Etched Glass Cornucopia Vase, Louis XVI Style

Combining a candle-arm sconce with a small vase or cornucopia form at its center was a decorative device that let makers add texture and material contrast without extra ornament elsewhere on the piece. Here that vase element is worked in etched glass rather than metal, giving each sconce a lighter, more luminous center between its two scrolled candle arms.

This pair is worked in gilt metal, each sconce built around a central tapering glass vase etched with a floral and ribbon motif, flanked by two scrolled arms that curve outward and down to shaped, beaded drip pans and candle-style sockets. Note how the glass vase is held by a simple metal collar rather than being cast as part of the arm structure, a construction that lets the etched glass catch light independently from the surrounding gilt metal. Each sconce is fitted with two matching pleated fabric shades, one of which shows some blackening to the interior.

The pair reaches us in good used condition, with wear consistent with age and handling, and one shade noted as blackened on the inside. As lighting pieces, both sconces will be fully rewired through our workshop, delivered working and ready to use; bulbs are not included. Hung as a pair either side of a mirror or console, their etched glass centers add a touch of sparkle beyond the metalwork alone.
