Pair of Louis XVI Style Single-Arm Wall Sconces, Gold-Tone Metal with Fluted Back Plates, Urn Tops and Beaded Drip Pans
A small urn sits at the top of each sconce, and a slim fluted plate tapers down below it like the end of a classical column. A single candle-style light stands out in front.
Each sconce has a tapering back plate in gold-tone metal, cut with long vertical grooves and finished with a pine-cone drop at the bottom. At the top sits a small urn with scrolled handles. One curved arm holds a round drip pan edged with beads, a cup and a cream candle sleeve. The long grooves are called fluting. They copy the columns of ancient Greek and Roman temples, and they were a favourite detail in Louis XVI design.
The sconces are in very good vintage condition, with a soft, mellowed gold tone. Others have looked after them before us, and they're ready to be looked after again. Their slim shape suits narrow spaces, either side of a bed, a bathroom mirror or a doorway.
