Pair of Louis XVI Style Two-Arm Wall Sconces, Gilt Metal with Scrolled Arms, Beaded Drip Pans and Urn Finials

Twin scrolled arms curve out from a slender back plate, each holding a candle-style light. With the lights on, they give the soft glow of candlelight without the flame.

Each sconce has a tapering back plate in gilt metal, with a small pointed finial at the top and a turned urn-shaped finial below. Two C-shaped scrolled arms curve out on either side. Each arm ends in a round drip pan edged with tiny beads, a ribbed collar and a cream candle sleeve. The row of small beads around each drip pan is called beading, or pearling. It is one of the clearest marks of Louis XVI style, used on furniture, silver and lighting from the 1770s onward.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, with a warm, even gilt tone. They come to you after careful keeping, and they deserve the same. Hang them either side of a mirror, a fireplace or a bed, or along a hallway.
