Pair of Three-Light Brass and Opal Glass Wall Sconces, 1950s/60s — European

Three-arm wall sconces with a converging stem and opal glass shades reflect a common mid-century approach: solid brass fittings paired with hand-decorated glass, letting three separate light points read as a single sculptural spray rather than a symmetrical, matched fixture.

This pair follows that idea closely: each sconce has a solid brass frame with three arms rising from a stepped rectangular backplate to converge in a tied, sheaf-like base before separating into three curving stems, each topped with a tapering white opal glass shade decorated with gold and black comma-form motifs. The sheaf detail at the base, where the three arms visually cinch together before spreading outward, is a design device borrowed from floral and botanical motifs, meant to unify three separate lights into a single gesture rather than three independent branches.

Condition is very good across both sconces; there are no cracks or damage to the glass, and the brass shows light pitting consistent with its age. The pair has clearly been well kept, and now moves forward together to a new setting. Suited to flanking a hallway, a living room, or either side of a sideboard.
