Matching lamps do a room a quiet favour: they set up a symmetry that everything else can settle around. Placed on either side of a bed or a sofa, this pair brings warm wood and a glint of gold to the edges of the room. They are simple, familiar shapes, made to be lived with.

Each lamp has a stem of warm-toned turned wood, shaped into a baluster of rings, bulbs and narrow waists. A gold-tone neck sits above the stem, and each lamp stands on a stepped, square gold-tone base. The stems are shaped on a lathe: the wood spins against a cutting tool, which is how the rings and swells come out evenly round from every side.

The pair is in very good vintage condition, and our workshop fully rewires both lamps before they leave. Nothing about them has been restyled, and they go to their next home as a pair, just as they arrived. Set on two nightstands or at each end of a sideboard, they frame a bed, a mirror or a painting.
