Pair of Urn-Shaped Table Lamps, Dark Patinated Finish, Garland Swags, Fluted Feet (Neoclassical Style)

The urn is one of the oldest decorative shapes in Western design, and it still brings a sense of order to any room it stands in. In this small pair, the form is kept compact and dark, with pale highlights picking out every curve. They are lamps that feel classical without feeling grand.

Each base is shaped as a covered urn with a domed top. Below the top runs a band of garland swags, and the urn rests on a short stem above a round, fluted foot. The dark finish is lifted by lighter highlights on the raised edges, so the relief stays easy to read. A garland of this kind, known as a swag or festoon, imitates the flower and fabric garlands once hung on classical buildings.

The pair is in very good vintage condition, and our workshop fully rewires both before they leave. They leave us unchanged, ready to take up their role as a pair. At each end of a mantelpiece or on two small bedside tables, they give a neat classical symmetry without taking up much space.
