Scandinavian Style Ceramic Table Lamp, Pineapple Scale Relief, Caramel and Aubergine Glaze, Mid-Century Modern Lamp Base

Picture a pale wooden room in a northern house with a long winter light outside the window. On a teak side table, a small lamp glows in amber and plum, the colours of late autumn brought indoors. This is a lamp from a design tradition that believed a useful object should also be a warm one.

The lamp base is glazed ceramic: a rounded body with a tall, narrow neck. The body is covered in overlapping scales in raised relief, like the skin of a pineapple, glazed in caramel brown with pale blue-grey tips. The neck is finished in a smooth aubergine glaze. Where a glaze meets raised relief, it runs thin over the high points and pools deeper in the hollows, so the colour shifts slightly across every scale.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, and our workshop fully rewires it before it leaves. We have kept it as it was made, and it goes to you ready for its next room. Its compact size suits a bedside table, a bookshelf or a window ledge, where a small pleated or drum shade will let the glaze show.
