Sculptural Brass Table Lamp with Walnut Wood Base, Circa 1950 — European

Sculptural metal table lamps built around a single decorative stem — rather than a turned column or baluster form — mark a departure from more traditional candlestick-style lighting, letting the metalwork itself become the visual subject rather than a support for a shade. A contrasting wood base grounds a piece like this, adding warmth and weight beneath an otherwise all-metal composition.

This lamp follows that idea closely: a gilt metal stem set with a repeating run of curved, leaf- or paddle-shaped elements stacked along its length, rising from a round walnut wood base to a tapered linen shade. Repeating a single sculptural element up a stem like this — rather than using continuous fluting or a solid form — was a way lampmakers could add visual rhythm and texture to an otherwise plain rod, catching light differently at each curve as the eye travels upward.

The shade is in its original condition and shows light moisture staining, as noted by the seller. The lamp has clearly been well kept, and now moves forward to a new setting. Suited to a study, a console table, or beside an armchair.

Gilt metal stem and fittings on a walnut wood base, with a tapered linen shade; weight not recorded. At 60 cm, it stands roughly as tall as a two-liter bottle stacked on a shoebox.
