Four riders and four horses, each caught in the middle of a lesson: a raised foreleg, a collected stride, a calm halt beneath the trees. Hung together, the set reads like pages from an old riding manual. They bring the order and poise of the riding school to a wall.

Each print shows a single rider in a tricorn or bicorne hat and a long coat, on a grey or bay horse, set against trees or a riding-school wall. The colours are soft, with muted reds, blues and greens on a pale ground, and each image carries a title in Spanish beneath it. Riding manuals once used images like these as teaching plates, each showing one movement as a model for the rider to copy, which is why horse and rider are drawn with such careful attention to posture.

The set is in very good vintage condition. They stay together as a set of four, framed as we received them. Hung in a row along a hallway or in a square above a desk or console, they make a ready-made gallery wall.
