The pomegranate has carried a decorative meaning across European ornament for centuries — abundance, fertility, and a fruit whose sculptural form, with its crown-like calyx, translates beautifully into a finial. A lidded dish topped with a pomegranate was designed for the table's sweeter moments: sugar, bonbons, small treats, kept covered and brought out for guests, the fruit on the lid announcing the pleasure waiting beneath it.

This bonbonnière is European, vintage, in silver-plated metal. The body is a rounded footed bowl, rising from a stepped circular pedestal to a wide, gently flared rim, its domed lid fitting closely over the bowl below. At the crown of the lid, a pomegranate finial sits nestled within a ring of leaves, the fruit modelled with its characteristic segmented, crown-topped form and the surrounding foliage worked with individual veined leaves — the naturalist decorative detail that gives an otherwise plain silvered form its visual interest. The proportions are generous and confident: a wide, low bowl on a substantial foot, built for genuine table use rather than purely for display.
