This candlestick is French in style, in the Art Deco style, in polished silver-toned metal: a domed circular foot with a milled rim, engraved with a ring of stars and rising in faceted panels, through a ringed knop to a swelling stem chased with a sharp sawtooth band of triangles, then a slender ribbed neck flaring to a scalloped drip rim at the nozzle. Turn it under a lamp and watch the sawtooth band — each triangle is a flat facet cut against the curve, so the band flickers light around the stem as you move, the geometric play that is the whole Deco idea in miniature. At six hundred grams it has real quality in the hand. It stands ready for a candle tonight.
