Small animals stand on their hind legs and hold up a shallow dish, as if they are carrying it to the table themselves. It is a playful little piece, made to catch rings, earrings or a pair of cufflinks at the end of the day.
The round dish sits on three legs. Two of them are modelled as upright horned animals, and the third is a simpler figure at the back. The metal has a dark patina, and gold-tone metal shows through where it has worn on the rim, the heads and the round feet. A three-legged stand is always steady, even on an uneven surface, because three points can never rock. That is why tripods have been used for dishes, pots and stools for thousands of years.
The dish is in good vintage condition, with wear to the patina inside the bowl and on the high points, as seen in the photos. It has passed through other hands before ours, and it is ready for yours. It sits well on a dressing table, a bedside table or next to the front door for keys and small things.
