Standing Borzoi Figure in Brown Patinated Metal on Speckled Rectangular Base, Animalier Style Dog Sculpture
Tall, lean and alert, this borzoi stands with its head turned, as if it has just caught a scent on the wind. The long, silky coat and narrow muzzle are caught in fine detail. It is a quiet, elegant portrait of one of the most graceful dogs there is.
The figure is cast in warm brown patinated metal, showing a borzoi standing four-square. Its long, feathered coat is modelled along the neck, chest, legs and plumed tail. It stands on a rectangular speckled base in grey and pink tones. The borzoi is the Russian wolfhound, bred for coursing, and its long coat and narrow head made it a favourite subject for animal sculptors in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
The figure is in very good vintage condition. It is passed on with its warm brown patina as it is. On a desk, a mantelpiece or a bookshelf, it makes a handsome gift for anyone who loves sighthounds.
At its heart: a brown patinated metal figure of a standing borzoi on a speckled rectangular base.
