One stem, one flower, and a tall glass trumpet to hold it. This vase makes a single rose or lily look like an occasion. It is a piece that proves a little can be enough.
A slender trumpet of clear glass, swirled with fluting and lightly engraved, opens to a wavy rim. It sits in a gilt metal cup on a turned stem, rising from a scrolled base with a shaped cartouche and three curling feet. A single-stem vase like this is known as a soliflore: its narrow neck holds one bloom upright, while the flared mouth gives the flower room to open.
The vase is in very good vintage condition. Its glass trumpet and gilt base go together as the set they were made to be. On a mantelpiece, a dining table or a dressing table, it holds a single tall stem, a spray of blossom or a few dried grasses.
