Vintage 1920s–30s Small Oval Brass-Tone Box with Slip-On Lid
A plain little oval box in warm brass-tone metal, with a smooth domed lid that slides snugly on and off. It's the kind of small, useful object that once lived in a waistcoat pocket or on a dressing table.
The box is a simple oval with straight sides and a gently domed lid, finished with a narrow rolled edge. It has no hinge or catch: the lid is made to fit tightly over the base, so it stays closed on its own. Small oval boxes like this were made in great numbers for snuff, pills, stamps or a few coins. A well-fitted pull-off lid kept the contents dry and secure without the cost of a hinge.
The box is in good vintage condition, with a warm, aged patina and some darker spots and light marks from use. It's ready to hold rings, earrings, pills or keepsakes on a dressing table or a desk, or to slip into a bag.
